Track Name: Ripcord
Ripcord
the chute blossomed
well, he missed the mark
'cause you know the wind caught him

light the fuse
launch the rocket
when the park closed
we were hiding by the docks and when the

night comes (you were)
wearing sandals (I was)
running barefoot (you were)
lighting candles

hold the punk
launch the rocket 'cause you know
next year
we'll be tryin' to top it

I was calling it back
was calling you
I was hoping here to remind you
I was calling it back
was calling you
I was hoping I could still find you

Hold tight
you're the lookout
when we saw his face
he was casting dirty looks out

quick trip
to the storefront
tie the loose ends
you were eyeing for the hookup
at the riverside

checkin' my bluff
when you jumped the cliff
I said one life is never enough

Ripcord
I'm the fuse
when we got together
we had nothing left to lose
Track Name: Lone Elm Road
Out on Lone Elm road, at the end of my rope,
when the trigger man was coming on through.
He said, "I'll give you a hand if you think you can stand to pay me when the course is through.
If you're the type who believes in much more than he sees, well then, fella, I'm the man for you.
But at the end of the line I will get what is mine, yeah,
'cause Papa don't suffer no fools."

You know what they say, every dog has his day,
I believed mine might be coming too
Though one look in his eyes and I knew well that I might be damned if I don't or I do
They say that in life every man has his price and the devil must get his due
He said, "You look like a gambler, so don't play it dumb, man,
'cause Papa don't suffer no fools."

A falcon screams on Lone Elm Road,
tears placid thoughts from mind.
Spreading wings so taughtly straight,
he dove - a sweeping cry.
A grackle in the dead of night,
a raven in the moon.
Their words are spoken in the dark;
they tell me death comes soon.

He gave me a light and tho try as I might, I didn't once see the whites of his eyes.
He said, "Men give and men take, but I play games with fate, boy, you think you might give it a try?"
He promised me riches, no more diggin' ditches by the side of that Lone Elm Road.
And all that he asked
was when my life was past
that I pay him much more than I owed.

Well, the summers came fine, he hadn't once crossed my mind
since that night so many years before
'til there came a concussion of anger come rushin' to beat down against the front door.
The trigger man said, with his gun to my head,
"Boy, your time's come and I'm come for you."
So out back I was digging my grave, he was singing
'bout how Papa don't suffer no fools.

A falcon screams on Lone Elm Road
for your end and for mine.
We’re naught but prey within the grass
his claws will shear in time.
A grackle in the dead of night,
a raven in the moon.
The trigger man carved up a stone just for me,
said, "The Devil must get his due."
The devil must get his due.
The devil must get his due.
And Papa don't suffer no fools.
Track Name: Winter Child
My Heart, is there left to save
A product of our changing ways
The dreamsong that you gave to me
Was only new love's memory

The tide, it comes, to shape me down to sand
And time, she comes, to cup me in her hands
And wrap me as a winter child beneath the blankets of the land
My deeds and prayers across the earth in brightly colored strands
To the home of one who taught me what it meant to be a man
When I was on your mind

The heirloom that you left behind
A product of our changing mind
Your smile on another's face
Your heartbeat in my lover's place

The tide, it comes, to shape me down to sand
And time, she comes, to cup me in her hands
And wrap me as a winter child beneath the blankets of the land
My wants and needs across the earth in tattered, shredded strands
To the home of one who taught me what it meant to be a man
When I was on your mind

The photograph you tried to take
The only thing that was at stake
A product of our shifting tone
A bed can't save our broken home

The tide, it comes, to shape me down to sand
And time, she comes, to cup me in her hands
And wrap me as a winter child beneath the blankets of the land
My love a song I sang to try to help you understand
To the home of one who taught me what it meant to be a man
When I was on your mind
Track Name: The Sigh Of The Sea
I said, Sophie
it's not that easy
living out on the coast
when most of the people here are so insulated
and they walk with their hands in their pockets
like talking
to someone new
would just be too much for them

I said, Sophie
it's not been easy
since you haven't been around
I've been writing you
some days I'm still fighting you
tempus fuget in the Puget Sound

And I wouldn't say I'll always feel this way
it takes time to forge a new home
and I knew too well that you never would stay
some lives must live on on their own

I said Sophie
you kept me busy
when autumn came crashing down
when the lights on the signs of the buildings outside called to the crowd:
come one, come all, come inside, come and bare your soul
where they sat with rapt faces, or eyes to the floor
when I was done they said "Son, we've not heard that before"
it was you in the rain, it was me in the spring
there's half truth and half lie in the songs that I sing

And I wouldn't say I'll always feel this way
it takes time to forge a new home
and I knew too well that you never would stay
some lives must live on on their own

I said Sophie
it's not that easy
livin' out on the coast
Track Name: Rain Song
As the rain came down one English morning
Sarah waited for the train
wondering where she was last night
wondering why she never came home

As the rain came down one English morning
sitting by the oceanside
wondering why she was doing wrong
Kate would watch the ins and outs of the tide

As the rain came down one English morning
Joel, you know, was sleeping in
as his kids were running through the flat
he said, "My God, I'm blessed to live like this."

As the rain came down one English morning
smoking by the side of the road
Jon was thinking about his dad
as he was buttoning his overcoat

As the rain came down on you and me
it was washing out the blue from my eyes
some days I wish we could both live here
some days I think I'll give it a try
As the rain came down on me and you
your saltwater face shone in the light
some days I wish we could both stay here
some days I think that we still might
Track Name: Wanderers
All the reasons I've been clinging to I'm throwing out
All the stories that I heard
Living one life isn't all that you're entitled to
All the lessons I had learned

When I'd ask what am I doing I'd prevaricate
I didn't know that it was true
But now I see with eyes wide open and a fuller heart
Every day we live anew

Oh we aren't landlocked, we're the wanderers
There's a fire burning in our mind we can't ignore
We're the ones who cross with confidence and longer strides
Into the long forgotten shores

I was afraid to dream 'cause dreamers often wake to find
The harsh reality that pulls no punches passing time
But leaving passion lying parched beside a river wild
Oh, I just couldn't live with that
All the reasons I've been clinging to I'm throwing out
All the stories that I heard
Living one life isn't all that you're entitled to
All the lessons I had learned

Oh we aren't landlocked, we're the wanderers
There's a fire burning in our mind we can't ignore
Oh we're the ones who cross with confidence and longer strides
Into the long forgotten shores
Oh we're the ones who cross with confidence and longer strides
Into the long forgotten shores
Track Name: Whippoorwill Winter
Beside a hole in your down coat pocket
Is the note where you straightened your thoughts
On the paint cracking dry that had once matched your eyes
Lies the weight of my rusted post box

Keep your head on your heart
Keep your heart from the cold
When the last of the tears have fallen
We will unfold

The ice on the grass is sounding
Each footstep into the wood
In the light of the whippoorwill winter
I understood

Keep your head on your heart
Keep your heart from the cold
When the last of the years have fallen
We will unfold

Oh, sweet summer sun
You were my only one
At dawn and dusk
'Til kingdom come
The seasons change
What's done is done

Keep your head on your heart
Keep your heart from the cold
In the light of the whippoorwill winter
We will unfold
Track Name: The Wolves
There's a calm in the air
and a storm in my head
there's a one act of you
playing over my bed

There's a path in the woods
freshly laden in snow
when the wolves came to call
I could feel my blood flow

You can't see them, but you hear them, they're cunning
You can't see them, but you hear them, they're running

There's a ghost by the lighthouse
unburdened by clothes
who watches in silence
for someone she knows

While the wolves, they come sniffing
their dark eyes aglow
to pace at the doorstep and
claw the windows

You can't see them, but you hear them, they're cunning
You can't see them, but you hear them, they're running

Come Come Comala, Comala Come Come
There are Wolves in the Calla,
That we can't outrun

In the light of the fire
I wait for the sun
to give birth to a morning
that may never come

While the wolves form a circle
that trails back in time
I see into their hearts
as they stare into mine

You can't see them, but you hear them, they're cunning
You can't see them, but you hear them, they're running
Track Name: Out Of Love
Your mind was changing faster than my mouth could move
and I could not find the words it took to get through to you
to stay, and you walked away

It's one thing to have to tell you the word goodbye
and a whole 'nother game to get on with my life without you
Why's it easy for you?

And I don't know if I can see you again
They say friends can turn into lovers but not back to friends
woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah oh oh

I never meant to keep adding fuel to the fire
Oh how quickly the flames grew too high to tame
Guess I'm to blame

And who would have thought it'd be the both of us taking the burn
Ain't it just like the both of us to live and not learn
woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah oh oh

I'd still be holding you if only I had my way
Maybe I'll be the one, oh that you want someday
We'll see
At least I can breathe

Tell me what did you use to get me out of your head?
And where the hell can I get some of it?
Cause I've been screaming and no one asks what for
Guess I'm out of love and nothing more
woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah oh oh
Track Name: Home
Calm blue sky on the edge of the horizon
Calm blue waves at the edge of the sea
They're no match for the storm that is rising
There's a hurt in my core that is gnawing at me

Carolina is oh such a light year away
And the phone is no way to tell them I care
You were out in Salina living for today
With the sun at your back and the wind in your hair

I left for the work
More I left for the pay
But the coast gets so cold at night
And often wish I had stayed
For nights on the prairie
Were swimming in stars
And the tall grass beneath me
Grew into my heart

Walk away from a life that is chosen for you
We each take our own breath, we find our own peace
Left a part of my soul in each town that I pass through
Gave the most to my family but kept some for me

You were growing on me, we were growing apart
Gathering our rosebuds, but from different fields
Why's it always appear that our words are so sharp
When the cuts come most easy, take the long road to heal?

I left for the work
More I left for the pay
But the coast gets so cold at night
And often wish I had stayed
For nights on the prairie
Were swimming in stars
And the tall grass beneath me
Grew into my heart

I'm coming home
There's a light in the darkness that's burning for you
I'm coming home
Where the sun dries the wheat shocks and the warm air blows through
